Handara Golf Resort is Bali's first and oldest golf facility, established in the central highlands before the island's coastal golf boom. The 18-hole championship course covers 120 hectares of mountain terrain at over 1,100 meters elevation, making it one of Southeast Asia's highest-altitude courses.
The layout takes advantage of the natural bowl formed by surrounding peaks, with fairways running through volcanic soil and native forest. Temperature at this altitude stays consistently cooler than the coast—often 8-10 degrees lower—which affects both play conditions and grass maintenance. The course has hosted national and regional tournaments since its opening. Handara attracts serious golfers traveling specifically for the course, as well as players based in Bali looking for an alternative to sea-level layouts. The combination of elevation, terrain variation, and mountain weather creates conditions that differ significantly from Bali's resort courses in Nusa Dua or Tabanan.
The club maintains its original character while updating facilities. Golfers who played here decades ago return to find the course largely unchanged, though amenities and course maintenance have modernized over time.
