    Airport Rights Surf Break
    Jimbaran & Kedonganan
    Sightseeing & Nature

Airport Rights is tucked down in the southernmost tip of Bali Airport's runway, out of sight. And while there are lots of right handers within 30 minute drive on the east coast. you will have to hit them early before the trade wind blows. Half the fun in Bali is finding them. However getting to Airport Rights is also a lot of fun, and  simple too. Hiring a local boat service is your best bet for getting there fast and without expending a lot of energy. Since it is one of the farthest reef breaks from the coast, it is impractical to paddle there. The majority of Jimbaran Beach's fisherman are familiar with the best areas, and they'll happily take you there for some rupia. There is a shorter distance between this location and the front of the lineup if you come from Jimbaran instead of Kuta. Kuta boat rides may be negotiated on the sand in front of Restaurant Pantai on Jalan Wana Segara. The cost of a round-trip on the boat is variable, but you should budget at least Rp100,000. Jimbaran boats may be seen on Jalan Taman Sari, next to the port and fish market. When its on, the tides are high, and the winds are light, the crowds will come out in force. Airport Rights typically breaks between 2 and 6 feet for about 320 feet, with the occasional barrel thrown in. Being patient and not dropping in on others in the lineup will increase your chances of catching this wave alone. Activities & Experiences

Amplitude is a skate and bike park located in Kerobokan, Bali in Indonesia. Since March 2016 you can cruise around in an enormous pump track and bowl with your bike, rolerskate, skuter, skateboard or surfskate. In January 2017 we extended the pump track and added a street skate area and a kiosk that provides delicious food and beverages. Amplitude is an inspiring place to learn new tricks, hang out with your friends and family, enjoy snacks and drinks and have a lot of fun. Everyone is welcome. While kids are taking skate lessons in the park, parents can settle back in the kiosk and watch their kids progressing or read a book. No matter whether you come with your friends or by yourself, at Amplitude you will easily make new friends and share bonding skate moments and good stories with them, have a lot of fun racing the pump track together and push each other to try and eventually stand new tricks. The racing pump track was the first in Indonesia to be designed and constructed by the prestigious Swiss company Velosolutions, which has been an active business in the mountain bike community for over 17 years. Together with Amplitude they developed the concept for the pump track and perfectly combined it with the already existing infrastructure. Also, we are proud to present the deepest skate bowl in Indonesia with a depth of 270cm. The bowl as well as the street skate park were built by the Indonesian skateboard and skate park brand Motion.

    Sanur
    Education

Originally opened in September 1985 by the Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture as the Yayasan Bali International School, Bali International School (BIS) is an international school located in Sanur, an area of Denpasar, Bali. In 2014 Bali International School was renamed following the Ministerial Decree of Education 31/2014, requiring all existing international schools in Indonesia to change their name. Thus Bali International School became Bali Island School. Serving grades Pre-K-12 with over 300 students, its official logo was the frangipani, a well-known Bali flower. The school remains on its original site in Banjar Taman in Sanur Village, an area known for the high concentration of Brahmana, or priestly caste. Sanur is also a renowned centre of traditional Balinese learning, including Ramayana’s Kakawinan poetry. As a legal non-profit foundation, BIS was funded and run by parents. The initial student body was only eight primary students and a Canadian couple, Bill and Gundi Robertson, who were responsible for teaching and administration. By 1992 the enrollment was over 150 primary students from 26 countries. While most were from North America, Europe and Australia, BIS has students from all over the world, including Japan, Korea, Mexico, China/Taiwan, Russia and more and. Many of the children have dual nationalities, often with an Indonesian parent. The implementation of the International Baccalaureate (IB) was completed in 1999 for the Middle Years Program, resulting in the authorization for Grades 6-10 in 2000. The year 2000 marked the BIS CREST competition, where the dragon became the school’s official logo, symbolizing supernatural power, wisdom, strength, and hidden knowledge. As it happened on the Island of the Gods, the BIS community believes the dragon is a Balinese dragon. A unique status that differentiates BIS from other schools was earned in 2010, when BIS became the only school in the country with accreditation from CIS (Council o...

On its journey, the museum has ever been wrecked due to an earthquake in 1917 and rebuilt in 1920. German artist Walter Spies also has done a lot, for the sake of this museum on its early age. The museum area consists of the temple (puri) which divided into three sections kahyangan, pura, and merajan. The display area is divided into three buildings called Tabanan, Karangasem and Buleleng. Inside those buildings we can find artwork, ethnographic items, ancient texts (inscriptions), ceramics, porcelain statues, household appliances, agricultural tools, weapons, ceremonial tools, paintings, shadow puppets and so forth. Since early 2000, the Bali government has improved the museum by integrating few more pavilions, functioned as a library, reparations rooms (for broken artefacts), and also theatre.

    Activities & Experiences

Batur Geopark Museum is located on Jl. Raya Penelokan, Kintamani. This Museum situated on the south slope of Mount Batur presents a variety of information about national and global geopark. The museum building is designed based on the concept of the earth park, which consists of geological, biological, and cultural diversity. Previously this Museum is known as the Museum of Volcano Batur. Batur Geopark Museum was built after the Batur Caldera region was accepted as a member of UNESCO global geopark network (now UGG: UNESCO Global Geoparks) in September 2012. In this Museum we can find many interesting information related to the geology that is showcased in several dioramas, one of the most interesting diorama is about the formation process of Bali Island which has two volcanoes named Mount Batur and Mount Agung. In this diorama explained Bali Island formed from the existence of volcanic activity under the sea more than 23 million years ago in the east of Java. Underneath the earth, there is a hot magma that melted the crust of the earth, known as a hotspot. Then there is deposition under the sea that allegedly came from rock erosion, which was found in the eastern part of Java Island. First, it formed a coral reefs, then it stopped growing and became limestone reefs. Some of these layers were located in the southern part of Bali Island and on the island of Nusa Penida, which is why the south coast of Bali and Nusa Penida are mostly land of limestone. Besides, other dioramas tell about other volcanoes in Bali such as volcano Buyan-Bratan and Batur that did not stop. 30,000 years ago. Mount Buyan-Bratan erupted and released the ignimbrite and lava. This volcanic activity on the island of Bali continued to shifts toward the east along with the movement of Ancient Mount Batur. The eruption that occurred 30,000 years ago was caused the rest of the body of Ancient Mount Agung collapsed, volcanic activity continued to move and shifted to Mount Agung which produced sed...

The lake plays an important ecological and spiritual role in Bali’s highlands, providing water for farming and acting as a reservoir for the island’s traditional subak irrigation system. On the western shore stands Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, a water temple dedicated to Dewi Danu, the goddess of lakes and rivers. Built in the 17th century during the rule of the Mengwi Kingdom, the temple complex includes several shrines (meru), the tallest with eleven tiers, honoring Shiva and Parvati. A Buddhist stupa on the grounds reflects the coexistence of Hindu and Buddhist beliefs in Bali’s history. --- The Lake’s Role and Characteristics Lake Bratan covers roughly 375 hectares and reaches depths of up to 48 meters, depending on rainfall and season. Its waters are considered sacred, and the lake serves as a key source for irrigation throughout the central region. The area is cooler than the lowlands, with average daytime temperatures between 18–24 °C. Because of its central position, the lake has long been part of the island’s agricultural infrastructure — linking the highland water sources to downstream rice terraces through the subak system, a UNESCO-recognized cultural landscape. --- Visiting Information - Location: Bedugul, Tabanan Regency (about 50 km north of Denpasar) - Altitude: 1,239 m - Main Temple: Ulun Danu Bratan, dedicated to Dewi Danu - Entrance Fee: Around IDR 50,000 (subject to change) - Opening Hours: Approximately 8 AM – 6 PM - Climate: Cool, humid, and often foggy in the late afternoon Small boats and canoes are available for hire, and simple restaurants operate near the lakefront. Weekends and public holidays tend to be crowded, as local families and domestic visitors come for recreation. --- Nearby Points of Interest - Bali Botanic Garden (Kebun Raya Bali) – Indonesia’s largest botanic garden, a few minutes from the lake - Twin Lakes Buyan and Tamblingan – smaller crater lakes northwest of Bedugul - Banyumala and Munduk Waterfalls – accessible within 30–40 minutes by car --- Notes Lake Bratan is not only a scenic site but part of Bali’s living water network — a balance between nature, agriculture, and belief. Its temple, its function in irrigation, and its role in daily worship make it one of the island’s most significant highland landmarks.

    Buyan Lake

    Buyan Lake
    Singaraja
    Sightseeing & Nature

Lake Buyan – One of Bali’s Twin Lakes Lake Buyan lies in Wanagiri village, in the northern regency of Buleleng, about 1,200 meters above sea level. Together with Lake Tamblingan, it forms what locals call the Twin Lakes (Danau Kembar) — two adjacent crater lakes separated by a narrow ridge of forested land that was once part of a single ancient caldera. Buyan covers roughly 3.9 square kilometers, with its deepest point reaching about 87 meters. The lake is part of Bali’s natural water catchment system and helps regulate the hydrology of the surrounding highlands. Its cool temperatures, high humidity, and mountain backdrop make the area noticeably different from the coastal climate of southern Bali. --- Local Life and Activities The local community around Buyan has developed parts of the shoreline for camping and fishing, and on weekends the site is often used by Balinese families and student groups. Visitors can rent small boats, set up tents, or simply enjoy the quiet scenery. Compared to nearby Lake Bratan, the area feels more rural and less commercialized, retaining a calm atmosphere that reflects daily life in the highlands. --- Nature and Conservation The forest belt between Buyan and Tamblingan is home to birds, monkeys, and native plant species typical of Bali’s mountain ecosystems. The region is part of the island’s protected watershed area, providing freshwater to surrounding villages and farmlands. --- Visiting Information - Location: Wanagiri, Sukasada District, Buleleng Regency - Altitude: ~1,200 m - Area: 3.9 km² - Depth: up to 87 m - Main Activities: Camping, fishing, walking, photography - Nearby Attractions: Tamblingan Lake, Banyumala Waterfall, and the highland viewpoints along the Wanagiri ridge --- Lake Buyan represents a quieter side of Bali’s landscape — an area where nature, recreation, and community life still share the same space without much commercial impact.

Feby and Tipi Jabrik have been in the restaurant scene in Bali since the early 2000s, their first bar Black Dog was an institution for the old Bali heads to meet, hang and listen to good music. They opened Art Cafe their soulful cafe in Ubud in 2008 and a couple of years later opened Mantra right on the Petitenget strip in Seminyak. Seminyak was booming and Mantra was the place to go for a party, they showcased the islands best young talents and their musician mates from around the world would often bless us with an acoustic gig. As Feby and Tipi’s two young children grew up they moved their focus to their surf hostel Kosta enjoying a slower paced life, with earlier mornings to spend down at Legian with the groms. They began building on Kosta Berawa in 2019, which is also when they met chef Dom. As the build went on and they faced the challenges of 2020, they knew that Dom was the person to have at the helm of their new kitchen and a trusted business partner. Together they agreed that they wanted to take Mantra into a new direction of sustainability, consciousness and positive impact to the local Bali community. GOOD Mantra was born, an evolution into plant based living. We believe your body is your temple and your food is your mantra. Our kitchen dishes up wholesome plant-based eats, focusing on unique ingredients from small local farms. Almost everything is made in-house, from our nut-milks to granolas to zingy relishes, chutneys and sauces, with the exception of breads from our good friend at Baked, just down the road. Our earth-to-plate philosophy is reflected in the bar, too, where our Balinese mixologists has designed a list of drinks inspired by the landscape and the seasons. We make most of our drink selections in-house with love, from native-plant sodas & jamus to our very own bitters, tinctures and vermouths, which are shaken and stirred in our cocktail range.

    Gunung Kawi Temple

    Gunung Kawi Temple
    Ubud
    Sightseeing & Nature

Gunung Kawi Temple This unique and truly impressive temple complex from the 11th century comprises 10 rock-cut candi (shrines). They stand in 7-meter-high (23 ft) sheltered niches carved into the cliff face. The monuments are dedicated to King Anak Wungsu of the Udayana dynasty and his favorite queens. General Information This temple complex is thought to be the burial complex of King Anak Wungsu and his wives and favorite concubines. The area is quite large and you can walk around freely, so take your time and feel into this ancient and beautiful place. If you are lucky, you will see a ceremony or women preparing offerings. Gunung Kawi is still used today for ritual ceremonies. The complex is considered one of the oldest temples in Bali, with its origins dating back to the times before the kingdom of Majapahit. Location & Setting The Gunung Kawi complex is located in Bali’s region of Tampaksiring, about 20 km northeast of Ubud. The temple is only about 2 kilometers away from Tirta Empul — if you are physically fit, you can visit both. To reach the temple and shrines, you descend 371 stone steps that lead through beautiful Balinese sawa (rice fields) to the Pakerisan River. Four shrines are located on the west side of the river, five on the east side, and the tenth lies to the south. Good to Know Take your sarong with you — if you forget, you can borrow one at the entrance. You need to walk almost 1 km to reach the temple. The walk is beautiful but not easy; going down is one thing, but climbing back up in Bali’s hot, humid air is another. However, you will be rewarded for your effort: at the end of the staircase you will see two pots filled with still water. If asked to wet your hair as part of a ritual, politely decline — the water may not be hygienic. Ceremonies Local women carry offerings on their heads to the shrines.

After the event, the group became so popular and decided to make a goup of gamelan orchestra called Sekaa Gong. Jatiluwih Rice Terrace

    Jatiluwih Rice Terrace
    Tanah Lot & Tabanan
    Sightseeing & Nature

Jatiluwih opens daily, from 8:30 am – 6:00 pm. Try visiting just after it opens or after 4:00 pm when the temperature is more tolerable. There is an entrance fee of IDR40,000 (October 2020). Jatiluwih Rice Terrace is located in the middle of Bali at the foot of Mount Batukaru in the village of Jatiluwih of Tabanan Regency. It is also about 850 metres above sea level in the Penebel district. Hence, the atmosphere can be cool at times. In June 2012, UNESCO had recognised Jatiluwih as one of the World’s Cultural Heritage Site as the rice fields are being watered by a traditional method called the Subak Irrigation System preserved from the 9th century & passed down through generations. Since farmers depend on the Subak, different Subaks from the 150 rivers & streams in Bali come together & merge into a single system to irrigate the rice terraces. These successful Subaks were due to the stringent management undertaken by the villagers themselves through the village cooperatives who gained recognition as the dominant factor in Bali’s entry on the heritage list. It is the biggest rice terraces in Bali, comprising over 600 hectares of incredibly well-maintained rice terraces & fields that follow the hillside topography of the Batukaru mountain range & is probably a replica of rice terraces in the 9th century. Hence, the landscape is far larger & the green fields are more expansive, magnificent & stretches by the kilometres. The rice stems are much longer at Jatiluwih. So, at ground level, they look less terraced than at Tegalalang. There are fewer cafes & restaurants in Jatiluwih & the locals do not hound you for donations. So, you can afford to chill & relax even more. The atmosphere is more laidback, less crowded & the paths are easier to walk on.

Here is the details of this show by Sekaa Gong Jaya Swara as one of the most famous sekaa (local musical and dance group/ community) known for their special main event dance Legong Supraba Duta of Mahabharata Epic. Visitor will enjoy at least eight performances during the entire show. The show will be opened with Tabuh Ombak Ing Segara (Waves of the Oceans) an instrumental performance created on 1993 that played for about 20 minutes, inspired by the fluctuations of the waves which sometimes can be so calm and comforting and yet at other times it changes into wild waves. For your information, this composition was composed by I Made Arnawa and Wayne Vitale for a Gamelan Gong Kebyar competition that held on Bali Arts Festival. We can feel the fuse between traditional and contemporary style during the show. The second performance is called Tedung Agung Dance (Welcome Dance), performed by male and female dancers. The male dancers will dance while moving their twirling umbrella that they use as the property, and the female dancers will use flowers as the element at this Tedung Agung Dance, which runs for about 10 minutes. Ubud
    Activities & Experiences

One of the best Kecak Dance performance in Ubud and believed as the authentic ones. The show is held every Monday at Pura Dalem Taman Kaja, nearby Junjungan Village. The show is amazing and very fascinating. Rings of men chant in a trance as the story unfolds in front of you. All of the dancers and actors are people in the local community who are served in the temple. Kecak Dance is one of the most famous Balinese dance performance created based on the ancient Sanghyang trance rituals which developed in the 1930s. It is remarkably known by the formation of the dancers sitting in a circle while chanting "chuck-chuck" which is similar to the sound of chattering monkeys. Male dancer predominantly did this dance, but today there is also another version of Kecak dance by female dancers. The story behind this dance is about Prince Rama, the heir of the Ayodhya Kingdom, and his wife Sita, has been banished by his father, the King Dasaratha because Rama's stepmother has deceived him. The story begun when Rama and Sita escaped into the forest of Dandaka. They didn't realize if they were watched by the demon Rahwana, the King of Alengka, who wanted to make Sita to be his wife because of her incomparable beauty. Rahwana sent his prime minister, Marica, to play a trick on Sita so that they can kidnap her. Marica has a magical power and turned himself into a golden deer, and runs around in the forest so that he can get Sita's attention and finally Rahwana managed to kidnap Sita. After that the rescue mission started, Prince Rama also got a help by Hanoman (the monkey-like creature) to fight the evil King Ravana and to get the Princess Sita back. In Junjungan Village Ubud the show of this colossal dance is divided into five acts which are: The first act is when Sita saw the golden deer; she was so enchanted by it; then she asked Rama to capture it for her. Rama went after the deer and instructed Laksamana (his brother) to stay behind and protected Sita. Suddenly Sita vaguel...

    Keramas Surf Spot & Break

    Keramas Surf Spot & Break
    Ubud
    Sightseeing & Nature

Called "Kera-Mas" in the local language. When translated literally from the Indonesian, Keramas means "Shampoo" or "Wash hair," which is slang for "being barreled" in English. Just like any surf spot around the world, 50 surfers competing for the same waves requires a little patience, respect--specially if wanting to surf with the locals. The ability to ride these waves, as well as the strength to do so, a kind greeting in the local language, and a smile to the locals are all prerequisites. From the airport or the west coast of Bali, take the Ketewel ByPass north via Sanur along the east coast, then turn right onto the narrow dirt road marked by a blue sign on the right hand side of the road with the word "Keramas" written in yellow letters by hand. Keep going down that path until you reach a dead end. Keramas, a World Surf League World Tour stop, is one of Bali's best east coast surf breaks. Airport to Keramas beach is 30 minutes. Canggu, Kuta, and Seminyak are busier than here. Five-star hotels line its 10-mile black-sand beach. Surf camps dot the beach and Ida Bagus Mantra road. Keramas is an excellent right on an island of excellent lefts. During dry season, it creates southwest swell and northwest wind. A little onshore wind maintains the wave at all tides. During the rainy season, the east coast has deep barrels, carvable and sections across a shallow jagged reef (beware!). April–October. Currents are strong on the shallow reef and dawn patrol applies year-round.

    Kim Soo

    Kim Soo

    Shopping

The Kim Soo story began in 2015 out of a decaying and wonderful old Dutch Colonial style building, in Seminyak, Bali. We lived in this setting and drew inspiration from the spiritual surroundings, the bohemia that was on our doorstep, the now iconic arches and quirky beauty. We transformed her thick white masonry walls into a place of natural calm and personal style and in the process, found ourselves surrounded by the exceptional artisans of Indonesia. As it happens in love, we quickly fell for their craft and soon we began dreaming about our own vision of beauty; something stylish, decorative and spirited, something unpretentious and filled with island ease. We knew that it would be hard to label so we decided to instead be just that; very nicely hard to label. And in that moment the Kim Soo brand was born. At the heart of the space and store are the brand's curators. A mother-daughter duo, driven by passion and their shared vision of the rare and beautiful. Together with their team they search the Indonesian Archipelago while working alongside local artisans to source and create pieces that promise to capture that je ne sais quoi spirit Kim Soo has become renowned for by locals and tourists alike. To this day, the dream is right where it all started and we still don’t have doors. We just drop the canvas blinds each evening and roll them up each morning. It’s a ritual that naturally suits the free spirit of our beautiful old building and the very nicely hard to label homewares, furniture and fashion that fill it. A little bit bohemian, a little bit classic, exotic and contemporary; it seems this place was always intended for escape and we hope that this vision, our vision, brings you great pleasure and enriches each space you live in.

    Luhur Batukaru Temple

    Luhur Batukaru Temple
    Tanah Lot & Tabanan
    Sightseeing & Nature

Probably one of the most visually stunning garden temples in Bali, Pura Luhur Batukaru is a sacred and holy site, and surprisingly, one where you don't have to pay an entrance fee but only a donation. When you first arrive what strikes you is the serene atmosphere, the silence, the beauty of the grassed courtyards and flowering shrubs, and the mountain forests on the slopes of Gunung Batukaru seemingly wrapping around the temple complex on all sides. There are several theories about the temple, but it is thought Pura Luhur Batukaru became a holy site in the 11th century. Consecrated and adopted by the Rajas of Tabanan they made it into their state temple and dedicated shrines here to their ancestral gods. In the Jeroan or inner sanctuary of the temple, a ceremony was in progress, so my movements within this area were limited. However, taking photographs discreetly, I was able to capture the beauty of the most important shrine - a seven-tiered pagoda dedicated to the god Mahadewa, the god of Gunung Batukaru. There is a tiny island shrine in the centre, and it is only the priests of Pura Luhur Batukaru that are allowed access there. Numerous moss-covered pathways are fanning out into a web deep into the forest, and here I found plenty of solitary shrines. Pura Luhur Batukaru plays an important role in the lives of the Balinese Hindus. Local Subak groups come to this place to draw holy water for use in agricultural ceremonies. During the Galungan festivities, devotees flock to Pura Luhur Batukaru to pay their respects and lay offerings. Pura Luhur Batukaru is just one of those places that is mesmerising and draws you back, again and again.

Ketut Wirata Sindhu in 2008 decided to upgrade the Gedong Kirtya library into a full museum. Gedong Kirtya Museum has two arch gates that are still original and well preserved. In each entrance, there is any information about what years it was manufactured. The outer gate was made on June 3, 1939, and the inner gate was made on May 31, 1933. Both of these arch gates look ancient and original made of brick, cement and sand. Museum Puri Lukisan

    Museum Puri Lukisan
    Ubud
    Activities & Experiences

When the high quality of Balinese art became worldly recognized, more and more Balinese artworks disappeared to other parts of Indonesia and foreign countries. Thus, the fear among the Balinese people, and also Rudolf Bonnet (a Dutch painter, 1895-1978), raised that the most precious art would be lost forever and would never come back to its origin. Another need among the artists was to improve their skills without losing their own identity as Balinese artists. 1936 The above mentioned developments were enough for Rudolf Bonnet together with Tjokorda Gde Agung Sukawati (the former Prince of Ubud, 1910-1978) and his brother, Tjokorda Gde Raka Sukawati and the famous painter to alter and shape a foundation in 1936, called “Pita Maha”. This foundation was to represent around 125 members in overseas market through exhibitions. Another activity was to organize weekly meetings with painters and woodcarvers in Ubud to discuss their works. Following the disruptions of Second World War, a new organization, called “Ubud Painters Group”, was created by artists such as I Gusti Nyoman Lempad under auspices of Tjokorda Gde Agung Sukawati and Rudolf Bonnet. Although it had many followers, the end came soon. Since then, a need for a museum of traditional Balinese art was felt among the artists. 1953 First another foundation called Yayasan Ratna Wartha was established in 1953. This Yayasan Ratna Wartha was to carry out the role and uphold the ideals of “Pita Maha”. In the same period plans and preparations were made to build a museum of modern Balinese art, designed by Rudolf Bonnet. With several financial support from different sources the building could start. 1954 A foundation stone-laying ceremony was performed by the then Prime Minister Ali Sastroamidjoyo. The name of museum was “Puri Lukisan” (palace of painting), from this time Tjokorda Gde Agung Sukawati became director of the museum and Bonnet the curator of museum. Without any support from the then Go...

Rudana Museum was inaugurated on December 26, 1995, by President Soeharto. Nusa Dua Beach

    Nusa Dua Beach
    Nusa Dua & Tanjung Benoa
    Sightseeing & Nature

Nusa Dua, on the east side of Bali's Bukit peninsula, is the island's most luxurious location. Most of the area is taken up by international hotels, resorts, and private villa complexes where the stars come to stay and play. It has many beautiful public beaches, which are worth a visit even if you are not staying in the area. There are several popular seaside spots here, including Black Stone, Mushroom Rock, and Sri Lanka, but the main attraction is Geger Beach. Here, you will find beautiful white sand and a clear ocean, as well as several beachside restaurants. Prices are slightly more expensive than in other areas, so don't be surprised if a beach chair and umbrella or fresh young coconut water cost one or two dollars more. Nusa Dua is famous for surfing but its waves break roughly one kilometer out to sea, and the ocean near the shore is gentle, with almost no waves or currents. A soft sandy bottom makes this a great place to swim for the family, and even for very small children. A little farther out, but still in a gentle bay, is a long stretch of live reef which is visited by fish, dugongs, and rays, making it a good place for a snorkel. There are no lifeguards here, so anyone heading far out to ocean should be careful. Surfers who want to give Nusa Dua a try should be prepared for some of Bali's biggest waves, which can be reached by a long paddle or a short boat ride. This is not a surf spot for the inexperienced, and on many days, it can be rather dangerous. Some parts of Nusa Dua also offer fun water sports for the family, such as jet-skiing and banana boating. The beachside restaurants here are fairly clean and the food can be quite good. It is also worth visiting one of Nusa Dua's luxury hotels, even if you do not stay the night, as some contain Bali's best restaurants, while others will let visitors pay to use their pool complexes and beach clubs for the day If you are looking for a clean, safe beach area that is fun for the whole family and not ...

Alan, who gave them 5 stars, said, "Our instructor, "T," was super encouraging and patient with me and my son. He helped us understand how to read the sets, pick the right waves, and gave us the much needed extra push when we could no longer paddle! lol The staff and their team were friendly! Thank you so much! We definitely enjoyed ourselves to the max and will be back again soon! 🤙" Edwige, who gave them 5 stars, said, "Excellent experience for myself and my 7 yo girl. I was a bit nervous to have her surfing because of the current and strong waves but the team planned for an instructor to be with her at all times while another instructor assisted my friend and myself. It felt safe, it was very fun and we had a blast. Great shower facilities back at the shop and great lunch place recommendation to top it up. This was the highlight of my Bali trip ☺️

    Ogoh-Ogoh Museum Soka Beach

    Ogoh-Ogoh Museum Soka Beach

    Activities & Experiences

Museum Ogoh-Ogoh Soka located in the rest area of Soka Beach Tabanan and officially opened for public on 2013. In this museum, we will find a monstrous sculptural art masterpiece in Balinese culture depicting personality of Bhuta Kala ( the power of universe and time) that used to be carried around on the road by the locals when the Pengrupukan Day comes every year (a day before the Silent Day). Normally ogoh-ogoh will be burnt after the parade, but some of them are kept in this museum. A day before Nyepi known as Pengrupukan Feast, people in Bali always hold an ogoh-ogoh parade. Ogoh-ogoh is a giant statue made of bamboo, paper and other materials which then carried around in a procession around the village. After the parade ogoh-ogoh usually will be burned as local belief all the dark forces which trap inside the ogoh-ogoh need to be set on fire. But there are some ogoh-ogoh not burned but displayed in a museum. One museum that displays ogoh-ogoh created by Balinese children is the Ogoh Ogoh Museum in Bali's Soka Tabanan Beach, which is commonly called the ogoh-ogoh Soka Indah Museum. There are dozens of ogoh-ogoh exhibited here. The establishment of the museum was initiated by Kooeswintoro, one of the education and tourism figures in Tabanan. The reason why this museum exists is that we all know that after being paraded around the village, ogoh-ogoh will be burned, but to make ogoh-ogoh requires a lot of money, some even cost hundreds of millions of rupiah. To see these ogoh-ogohs foreign tourists are willing to come to Bali specifically to see the ogoh-ogoh. Since it considered as a tourist attraction, this ogoh-ogoh that's why this museum was built.

    Pura Besakih

    Pura Besakih

    Sightseeing & Nature

Pura Besakih - The Mother Temple Besakih is known as the Mother Temple of Bali and is simply the most important temple for the whole island. It's actually more like a complex of temples within one very large compound and is loved for its dramatic location on the southern slopes of sacred Mount Agung. General Information Besakih is known as the Mother Temple of Bali and is simply the most important temple for the whole of the island. It's actually more like a complex of temples in one very large compound and is known and loved for its dramatic location on the southern slopes of Mount Agung. It has been accepted as Bali’s Mother Temple for more than a thousand years. Besakih is quite unique as it consists of more than 80 individual temples — the main one being Pura Penataran Agung (the Great Temple of State). A stone within Pura Batu Madeg suggests that the area around Pura Besakih has been regarded as sacred and holy since ancient times. In Bali, many temples and their meaning cannot be separated from the land they are built on — from nature and from the spirits and gods believed to live there. According to local priests, during the 8th century a Hindu monk had revelations to build homes on this holy ground. They say that during the process, many of his followers died due to illness and accidents. Stories like this form the building blocks of legends, so it is difficult to separate myth from historical truth. The people called the area “Basuki”, a name referring to “Naga Besukian”, a dragon deity believed to inhabit Mount Agung. Additional temple shrines were constructed, and Besakih was established as the main temple complex around 1340. Over the centuries, it was struck by several earthquakes (notably in 1917) and volcanic eruptions of Mount Agung. The 1963 eruption caused significant damage, but the lava flow stopped just short of the complex — sparing Bali’s Mother Temple from destruction.

    Pura Luhur Lempuyang

    Pura Luhur Lempuyang
    Amed & Tulamben
    Sightseeing & Nature

General Information\n\n Pura Luhur Lempuyang is a very scenic and sacred temple located in East Bali, nestled in the highlands of Mount Lempuyang. It is one of the most difficult temples to reach but also one of the holiest on the island. To reach the shrines, you must climb 1,700 steps cut into the mountain, which means a 1.5 to 2-hour uphill trek through the jungle.\n\nLike Besakih and Tanah Lot, Pura Luhur Lempuyang is one of Bali's most important religious sites. It is also one of the island's nine directional temples, which serve to protect Bali and the Balinese from evil spirits. Additionally, it is one of the six temples dedicated to the supreme God, Sang Hyang Widi Wasa, known as sad kahyangan, or the "temples of the world."\n\nIf you're looking for a physically challenging yet spiritually rewarding experience, this temple should be high on your list of things to do in Bali. Despite its significance, the temple is rarely crowded, making it a peaceful place to visit.\n\n Good to Know\n\n Pura Penataran Agung If you’re not keen on the full hike up to Lempuyang temple, you can visit the nearby Pura Penataran Agung at the foot of the mountain. This temple offers stunning views of Mount Agung and features impressive dragon stairs leading to its shrines, making it a photographer's dream.\n\n It's a Hike The temple’s location and breathtaking views make it a highlight for those who enjoy trekking. The challenging climb of more than 1,700 stairs will take you to the temple, which sits nearly 1,200 meters above sea level. The area around Mount Lempuyang is one of the best for hiking in Bali and offers a stark contrast to the busier southern regions of the island.\n\nThis experience is a blend of adventure, panoramic mountain views, and an exploration of an ancient religious site. The trek takes you through lush forests, past smaller temples, and you may even encounter grey long-tailed macaques along the way. Though Pura Lempuyang is smaller ...

    Pura Luhur Uluwatu

    Pura Luhur Uluwatu
    Uluwatu & Pecatu
    Sightseeing & Nature

Pura Luhur Uluwatu This cliff-top temple is truly impressive. Built on a steep cliff, visiting here can feel like sitting on the throne of Bali. During sunset, the atmosphere becomes mystical, making it a popular time to visit. --- General Information Uluwatu Temple (Pura Uluwatu or Pura Luhur Uluwatu) is one of Bali's nine key directional temples (Pura Kayangan Jagat). While a small temple may have existed earlier, inscriptions suggest that it was either built or expanded by the Javanese sage Empu Kuturan in the 11th century. Empu Kuturan was a Majapahit monk who established several other temples across Bali. Another sage from East Java, Danghyang Nirartha (also known as Dwijendra), is credited with constructing the padmasana shrines and is believed to have attained moksha at Uluwatu. According to legend, he reached spiritual oneness with the gods in a lightning strike, disappearing completely. You can enter the temple through two split gates flanked by Ganesha statues (elephant-headed deities). Behind the main shrine stands a Brahmin statue facing the Indian Ocean. Access to Uluwatu was challenging until the early 1980s. --- Location and Setting More remarkable than the temple itself — which may not be as grand as some of Bali’s other major sites — is its location. Perched on a steep cliff 70 meters above the crashing waves of the Indian Ocean, Uluwatu offers breathtaking views. The surrounding cliffs and sunsets are spectacular, making it a favorite spot for visitors and photographers alike. Below the temple is a scenic cave with rock formations leading to a nearby beach popular with surfers. In the evenings, visitors can watch a Balinese dance performance. Although it can be crowded and touristy, it remains a unique experience worth attending. Walking the length of the temple grounds takes about an hour; not many visitors explore the entire site, but those who do are rewarded with stunning coastal views and a deep sense of serenity.

Pura Tanah Lot - Tanah Lot Temple in Bali

Pura Tanah Lot - Tanah Lot Temple in Bali
    Tanah Lot & Tabanan
    Sightseeing & Nature

General Information\n\n Tanah Lot is one of Bali’s directional temples and is situated on a rock in the ocean, just offshore ( a rock which you cannot climb or visit). From all the beautiful temple sites on Bali, Tanah Lot is quite special and for anyone of the "must-things-to-do". It is said that Pura Tanah Lot has been built on the recommendation of an important Hindu priest Danghyang Nirartha in the 16th century, who has shaped Bali's Hinduism and religious architecture for the centuries to come. Tanah Lot is a very important site for pilgrimages and plays an important role in Balinese spiritualism and mythology. The rock that the temple sits on has been eroded by the ocean over the centuries and is now undergoing a process of restoration. Location & Setting\n\n The temple is located just offshore in the south-west of Bali on a rock which gets surrounded by the sea during high tide. It's roughly a 30-40min drive by cab from Seminyak (ca. 120.000Rp. with metered Taxi). The entire area around Tanah Lot is regarded as a holy to the Balinese. There has not been much tourism development in this part Good to Know\n\n This is an extremely popular tourist destination and the whole area is often busy, especially in the late afternoons, pre-sunset. The area between the car park (Rp 5,000 per vehicle) and the beach adjacent to the temple is a maze of souvenir shops selling just about every Balinese trinket imaginable. Don't forget to bargain. Once you have fought your way through the souvenir vendors to the beach, you will see the magnificent temple perched on a rock just a few meters offshore. There is a footpath to the raised cliff area just to the south from where the views of the temple and the sunset behind it are outstanding. Photo-opportunities abound. Most people stay around one hour. During high tide, the rock is completely surrounded by water. Best time to visit is during low tide (afternoon/evening) which allows you to get very near, watch the hol...

    Sanur Beach - Pantai Sanur

    Sanur Beach - Pantai Sanur
    Sanur
    Sightseeing & Nature

Sanur beach is one of Bali’s original tourist beaches, but that doesn’t mean it’s the busiest. If you are looking for a beach that offers peace, quiet relaxation, and a strong local community, Sanur is the place for you. At the north end of Sanur beach, you will find the Bali Beach Hotel, which was once the island’s most famous and luxurious hotel, and is still its tallest structure. From there, the beach runs south, with most of it lined by a small cement path that is closed off to cars and motorcycles, set far back on the beach. On this path are small shops, restaurants, and hotels, some of which have beachfront patios. These are quiet places, with none of the loud music and crowds of other tourist areas. A strong village community runs Sanur, and most of the businesses along the beach are family-owned and have been there for decades. Locals in Sanur are very friendly and like talking to tourists, but also will leave you alone if you are not in the mood for a conversation. The beach in Sanur is superb, with clean white sand and very few vendors. The ocean here is clear and gentle, and any waves break on a reef roughly 500 meters out to sea, making this an ideal place for swimming and playing in the sand with kids. Sanur is good for surfing, but only on rare days where the waves are huge everywhere else on the island, and the waves are a long way out from the beach. Swimmers here should keep in mind that where the sandy ocean bottom ends, there is sharp living coral covered with sea urchins, and at low tides, swimming may not be possible. This coral reef is also home to many brightly coloured fish, and snorkelling can be great in Sanur, with many locals also spearfishing and skin diving farther out into the ocean. The peaceful waters of Sanur make it a great place for boats to dock, so expect to see many colourful local jukung canoes and fisherman. This is also one of the departure points for boat trips to other islands.

Completed with a tranquil tropical garden and nice small cafe in the museum area, make the visitors feel comfortable to spend an hour in this museum. And the location is close to Goa Gajah (Gajah Cave) only about 5 minutes drive. The beginning story of this museum started with the meeting of two friends with mutual interest Mr Prayitno and Mr Hadi Sunyoto. They're both love to collect masks and puppets from all over Indonesia and even the world. Finally, they decided to build this museum to showcase their collections which have swelled up to thousands of items at that time. In 1998 a Setia Darma Mask and Wayang House was built in Bali, on a quarter of a hectare piece of land. After the hunting of collections over the years, there are around 1200 masks and 6900 puppets, sculptures and puppets from all over Indonesia and several countries such as Malaysia, Japan, India, Japan, Mexico, China, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Laos and several countries on the continent Africa. Setia Darma Museum is also equipped with an open stage for arts and cultural performances. This open stage is expected to accommodate around 500 spectators with a view of rice fields. Tamarind Divers

    Tamarind Divers
    Nusa Penida
    Activities & Experiences

Tamarind Divers welcomes each and every diver and marine enthusiast to come and experience some of the richest and most dynamic scuba diving in the world, around the islands of Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Penida and Nusa Ceningan, all just a 30min boat ride from Bali. We are a small, locally owned dive center. Our aim is to provide a professional, safe and fun diving experience, with small groups whose individual diving needs can be satisfied. Our daily dive trips usually consist of two guided dives, along the spectacular coasts of Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Ceningan & Nusa Penida. We offer a maximum of 4 guests per guide and all of our guides are professionally trained PADI Instructors or Divemasters, with a wealth of experience in finding the cool stuff underwater! When conditions are favourable, adventures down to Manta Point or Manta Bay, and also to the east coast of Nusa Penida, are possible. Lunch (vegetarian & gluten-free options available) is provided on the boat during the surface interval, along with mineral water & hot drinks. We also provide FREE transport to and from your accommodation on Lembongan! Diving around the three islands has a reputation from guidebooks as being difficult because of the currents. Most of the dives are drift dives, but our advantage being based on Lembongan, is that we can dive around the high tide when the currents are weaker. Our experienced guides also know which dive sites have the best conditions. This means we often have calmer waters in which to enjoy the spectacular coral and marine life.

    Tamblingan Lake

    Tamblingan Lake
    Singaraja
    Sightseeing & Nature

Lake Tamblingan – The Smaller Twin of Buyan Lake Tamblingan is located in Munduk village, in the highlands of Buleleng Regency. It lies next to Lake Buyan, and together they are known as the Twin Lakes (Danau Kembar). Compared to Buyan, Tamblingan is smaller — about one kilometer wide — and is surrounded by dense mountain rainforest. The area around the lake remains largely undeveloped. The forested slopes are home to orchids, ferns, and a small population of wild macaques that occasionally appear near the lakeshore. Because of its isolation, the lake has retained a quiet, natural atmosphere and is often used for spiritual and environmental retreats. --- Ulun Danu Tamblingan Temple On the eastern shore stands Pura Ulun Danu Tamblingan, a historical temple dedicated to Dewi Danu, the goddess of lakes and water. The temple is closely linked to the communities surrounding the lake and is part of the traditional subak water temple network of the region. Access to the inner temple is reserved for prayer and ceremony, but visitors can view and photograph the complex from outside its perimeter. The lake and temple are sometimes covered by morning fog, giving the area a calm, timeless quality. --- Visiting Information - Location: Munduk, Banjar District, Buleleng Regency - Altitude: ~1,200 m - Width: ≈ 1 km - Main Activities: Photography, quiet walks, canoeing (non-motorized), cultural observation - Nearby Attractions: Lake Buyan, Munduk Waterfall, Wanagiri viewpoint --- Lake Tamblingan is one of the few places in Bali where natural forest, sacred space, and traditional water culture still coexist with minimal development. It offers a sense of how much of the island once looked before mass tourism reached the highlands.

We seek to create a community of learners, where children and adults, play, work, talk, think, invent and create together. Our learning areas inside and outside the classroom incorporate a play-based pedagogy. The learning areas are defined small spaces and attention to detail is paramount where educators offer rich provocations to encourage children’s learning and skill acquisition. Our educators intentional teach the children using a play-based approach. At The Garden, children are allowed to go at their own pace. For us, the learning the process is always more important than the product. General Information\n\n Tirta Empul is not only one of the most important temples in Bali, but also one of the most famous due to its holy water used for purification rituals. Next to the complex is a modern villa, built in 1954 for President Sukarno's visit. The temple itself was constructed around 960 A.D. during the Warmadewa dynasty, founded by Sri Kesari Warmadewa. A descendant of the dynasty, King Udayana Warmadewa, was the father of King Airlangga, who also ruled over the island of Java.\n\nTirta Empul means "holy water spring." The spring water is distributed to various pools that Balinese Hindus use for purification rituals.\n\n Location & Setting\n\n Tirta Empul is located in the Tampak Siring region, just 20 km northeast of Ubud and close to Gunung Kawi Temple. The temple complex consists of three key areas: the front, the outer, and the inner courtyards. Visitors walk through lush gardens with statues and tropical plants to reach the entrance. Behind the temple gate, you will see the first purification pools, set in a serene and beautiful environment.\n\n Good to Know\n\n As with any Balinese temple, it's important to dress respectfully. If you do not have a sarong, you can borrow one along with a sash to tie around your waist. Women during their period are prohibited from entering sacred sites. The purification baths are intended only for Hindus.\n\nAt the parking area, you will find small souvenir shops and warungs offering refreshments, snacks, and local food. This type of infrastructure is common around major temples in Bali.\n\n

    Tista Village Tabanan

    Tista Village Tabanan
    Tanah Lot & Tabanan
    Sightseeing & Nature

The name of Tista Village was derived from the word "Ngetis" which in Balinese means resting or a place to rest. According to a local legend, a prince wandered around this village looking for a piece of land to build his castle. In his journey, he crossed mountainous areas with hilly terrain and tributaries, until finally, he met a monk who gave him instructions to continue his journey toward the south. After he arrived at the suggested location, he thought the area was not good enough because of the condition of the land is too bumpy. The Prince then continued his journey toward the north, hoping he would find the right place to establish his palace until finally, he arrived at the area which is now called as Kerambitan. One day some areas in Bali was hit by a serious problem which made many residents decided to go to Kerambitan seeking for protection. By the king's son, the people who came in his new castle at that time were ordered to find a place to rest on the west side of the Lating River. Until then, since then the west area of the Lating river is called as Tista (rest area). Due to more and more migrants from various other parts of Bali decided to live in this area, so this small rest area was started to change became a residential area / small village which is still called as Tista Village until today. There are four Banjars (local community councils) belong to Tista villages: Banjar Dangin Pangkung, Banjar Dauh Pangkung, Banjar Carik and Banjar Lebah. Ulun Danu Batur

    Ulun Danu Batur
    Kintamani Highlands & Mount Batur
    Sightseeing & Nature

Ulun Danu Batur Pura Ulun Danu Batur (also known as Pura Ulun Danu, Pura Batur, or Pura Bat) was built in 1926. It is dedicated to the goddess of lakes and rivers, Dewi Danu. Water is extremely important to the Balinese, so the goddess and the temples built to worship her are among the most sacred in Balinese Hinduism. --- General Information Ulun Danu literally translates as “head of the lake,” which reflects not only the location of the temple but also its importance and purpose. The temple compound actually consists of nine different smaller temples. There are almost 300 shrines dedicated to the gods and goddesses of springs, water, crafts, art, and agriculture — foundations of Bali’s society and culture. --- Location & Setting Pura Ulun Danu Batur and the village of Batur were originally located down in the caldera at the foot of the very active volcano, Mount Batur. In 1926, a strong eruption destroyed many villages and temples, including Batur, but the most important shrine — the 11-tiered meru dedicated to the goddess of water and the holy springs — survived. The people of Batur rebuilt their village and the temple at the highest and oldest rim of the caldera. Among the nine temples in the compound, Pura Penataran Agung Batur is the principal temple, with five main courtyards. The other temples are Pura Taman Sari, Pura Sampian Wangi, Pura Penataran Jati, Pura Tirta Bungkah, Pura Tirta Mas Mampeh, Pura Tuluk Biyu, Pura Gunarali, and Pura Padang Sila. Within the most sacred area of Pura Penataran Agung Batur, you will find the 11-tiered meru and three slightly smaller meru, dedicated respectively to Ida Batara Dalem Waturenggong (a renowned 15th-century king), Mount Batur, and Mount Abang. --- Good to Know Like many major temples in Bali, visitors are expected to offer a small donation of around 1 USD. There is much to explore beyond the main meru — tranquil courtyards, detailed carvings, and shrines surrounded by mountain views — all reflecting the enduring balance between nature, spirituality, and community that defines Bali.

    Ulun Danu Bratan
    Tanah Lot & Tabanan
    Sightseeing & Nature

General Information\n\n Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, or Pura Bratan, is a major Shivaite and important water temple (not to be confused with the other major water temple, Pura Ulun Danu Batur). The temple site is located in the mountain highlands near Bedugul on the shores of Lake Bratan. It was built around 1663 and is used to worship the lake and river goddess Dewi Danu.\n\nThis picturesque site is featured on an Indonesian banknote and is one of the most important and well-known landmarks of Bali.\n\n Location & Setting\n\n Ulun Danu Bratan (Beratan) is located on the western shore of Lake Bratan. It belongs to the village of Candi Kuning, part of the highlands of Bedugul in the Tabanan Regency. The Bedugul area is a favourite weekend and holiday retreat for many locals from all over Bali. The fresh climate and mountainous scenery offer a much-enjoyed change from the hotter coastal areas. Bedugul is centrally located in Bali, with the main street passing through, connecting the south (coming from Ubud) with the north (Singaraja and Lovina).\n\nThe part of the temple complex in the water has four groups of shrines, often featured in photographs of the temple. This historical site was built during the rule of the Mengwi kingdom. Interestingly, there is an old megalithic sarcophagus within the complex, suggesting that this site was established even before the Hindu shrines were constructed.\n\n Good to Know\n\n Bring a rain jacket or jumper, as it can be quite fresh, especially during the rainy months between November and March.\n\nBesides visiting the temple complex, you can hire small traditional boats (jukung) to explore the lake and coastal area. It's a nice way to experience this unique region and enjoy the views of the surrounding mountains. You can even hire fishing equipment if you're interested. A botanical garden is also located nearby for those looking to explore further.\n\n
